Assessing teachers’ perspectives on giving music lessons remotely during the COVID-19 lockdown period

The recent COVID-19 health emergency has forced many music teachers to adopt remote teaching methods. present paper investigates the practices and strategies used by conservatory-level give lessons online in different European countries USA. Data from an exploratory qualitative study were collected using semi-structured interviews covering aspects such as curriculum design, lesson implementation, evaluation, examination organization, time management skills. Interviewees offered rich descriptions of their experiences both theory instrumental lessons. Findings analyzed inductive method, giving rise following categories: school, technology, planning, managing lessons, examinations, strengths, limitations. Participants discussed ability manage they employed skills flexibility, problem solving, creativity planning a variety learning tools. They revised curricular activities methods associated with musical instruments played. argued that was very consuming (e.g., activities, preparing materials, exploring new possibilities technical tools) it stressful have lost satisfactory work-life balance. reported becoming more organized activities. Internet platforms found useful for sharing material, communicating, exchanging messages, keeping records all work done. learnt use video clips systematically modelling teaching. aware strengths limitations e-learning, called institutional support opportunities professional development.
